Magical Garden is a Waldorf-Based Preschool.

Our Magical Garden curriculum provides thoughtful experiences to broaden and deepen a young child’s natural curiosity. We meet the child where he/she lives... in a state of wonder. In our carefully crafted environment, a child blossoms.

We are play-based with an imaginative, gentle curriculum.

Children delight in open play each day with natural toys of silk, wood, and wool. They become princes, maids, and empresses in dress up. They build castles, tee pees and forts. We use homemade puppets to tell our stories. We cook, make useful crafts, and paint. Children are helped with verbal skills to negotiate healthy play. One-to one time with the teacher is offered daily. The children help to prepare and serve an organic snack. We eat family-style around a table, sharing and listening.

In joining hands, we become more confident and caring friends.

Circle time resounds each day with songs, finger plays, rhymes, and movement with the seasons. We hop and skip in the imaginary forest, and skate on the frozen pond. Our house is filled with music while we learn both new vocabulary and rhythms, important pre-reading abilities.

Once a week, Assja Stefanek, a Movement Specialist, teaches Eurythmy. It’s a time to dance, sing and play instruments.

Rich, universal stories feed the young child’s imagination.

Storytime is a cornerstone of the Waldorf-Inspired curriculum. In the oral tradition of many cultures, a folk or fairy tale is shared each day. The stories come alive through puppets and plays with simple costumes. Multicultural and gender-balanced stories are presented alongside classic tales.

We allow the child to be held by the cycles of the day, week, and season.

We have time out of doors daily. We have a sandbox, a swing for two, and a variety of outdoor toys. Non-competitive games are introduced on our grassy area. We are located adjacent to a public trail for nature walks and wagon caravans.

In our garden, children use the earth simply: mud pies, teas, dyes, flower crowns, fairy homes. Together, we plant, compost, weed and water. Our life science continues in all seasons.

We celebrate life’s cycles through festivals, birthdays, and school gatherings. Fall is the harvest and giving of thanks. In Winter’s darkness we may make soup, go caroling, light menorahs. Spring brings the May Pole dance and Earth Day. Multicultural festivals are also brought to the children. Families are encouraged to share their heritage with our school.

Whether our collective hands are busy or still, we stay close together.
In the Magical Garden, we become like a family.
